four words for right now {april 2015}

a regular post sharing some key words that make up the month and what it means to me… i want to look back on each year, and have a whole glossary of words that represent the seasons and journeys i have faced.

{ eclipse }
on april 4 we experienced a total lunar eclipse. i waited up late to capture the blood red moon but unfortunately, i couldn’t photograph it. but i was able to get some early moon photos from the great view we had when visiting family.

{ endless }
it is the middle of april and we are still experiencing weather that is full of sun and amazing cool breezes. the first summer from our return to new zealand feels a little endless, and i am definitely not complaining!
{ 100 }
one hundred years have gone by since the young men and women of our country fought for our freedom in a foreign land, the place now known as anzac cove, turkey. we have had major focuses around the country to commemorate this amazing act they took for our country. lest we forget.
{ chatter }
our boy is developing vocabulary and chatting so much more now. he loves to express himself and learn about animals and the sounds they make. it is wonderful to engage with isaiah and have chats about his day and what he has done at his early childhood centre.

four words for right now {march 2015}

a regular post sharing some key words that make up the month and what it means to me… i want to look back on each year, and have a whole glossary of words that represent the seasons and journeys i have faced.

{ matauri }
we had the amazing opportunity to stay in the matauri bay area for 10 days, a generous act from a colleague to explore the bay and te ngaere bay. a beautiful part of our country and so remote.

{ fejoas }
march starts the fejoa season in nz {having missed it for the last five years} and they are amazing. we have had students bringing them for us to school and we also have trees laden with the green gems there too! delish.

{ fishing }
it was so much fun to be a part of the whangaroa ladies fishing competition this month. my first time marlin fishing and we hooked two but they jumped off! we saw dolphins, a sun fish and made lots of fantastic memories with these great ladies. more to come i am sure!

{ pam }
a level five cyclone heading along the outskirts of the east coast after battering vanuatu ended up being heavy winds and rain. we were well prepared but didn’t need to follow the plans as it passed without too much effect in our area.

how has the month of march been for you?

four words for right now {february 2015}

a regular post sharing some key words that make up the month and what it means to me… i want to look back on each year, and have a whole glossary of words that represent the seasons and journeys i have faced.

{ found }
when i was unpacking i found a ring that was given to me when i was eighteen. i remember receiving it in the mail in my first year of university, a special surprise from my grandma and aunty. i have started wearing it again as a reminder; maybe a promise.

{ less }
i have gone back to not eating large amounts of meat very regularly. it is not a value-based decision but one that just crept up on me really. i seemed to have discovered a pattern when eating too much meat, i just feel icky. so i am making more decisions based on a variety of options. i hope to have time to broaden my scope for cooking and enjoy creating new alternatives.
{ camp }
our school has spent all week at lonsdale park in matauri bay. a beautiful place steeped in history and many memories for generations of northland youth. it has been a great way to build close bonds and memories to start a great year.
{ jump }
during our moving process, there was a moment when i caught a glimpse of our boy being so proud of himself. he got up onto the arm of our trailer {thankfully attached to the car} and jumped off it onto the ground below -no.sweat.at.all. hubby and i were amazing and there in started the {jump} craze!

{ oh no! }
isaiah is coming up with all sorts of new words these days, this week he’s been using the phrase {oh no!} a lot! he finds it really funny… along with {naughty mama, dadda etc} and others that are said at certain times… like leaving the house {where going?}. I love this age!

{ manual }
ive wanted to practise my photography skills ever since getting my canon 450d but always used the excuse of not having the time. but now i am determined to get back to what i loved at school.
{ downsizing }
shock horror we have to purge lots of our belongings for our move to kerikeri. things that we didn’t even know we had packed away for almost five years! Its a great feeling being lighter and only relieves the stress of {stuff}.  Have you purged your {stuff} before?

{ pesto }
i have successfully grown basil! after learning that this herb loves the sun, i have tended to it, whispered sweet nothings and been rewarded with multitudes of leaves which i have made into yummy pesto for salads and pasta. my family love it and me too!

how’s life where you are?

{ swap }

i took part in my first christmas swap with a blogger in derby, united kingdom. it was so awesome to send something off and also receive a surprise package in the mail and open it up to reveal wonderful treats and christmas crafts to use throughout the silly season. thank you, melanie!

{ kerikeri }
hubby and i have new positions for next year at a school on the outskirts of kerikeri – 1 and a half hours north of here. i will take up the pyp coordinator role part time and also be release teacher for the school on my other days. hubby will be the yr 6-8 classroom teacher and hod science and technology. it’s going to be an exciting challenge and adventure for next year. we will be close to a private beach and lagoon – pics to come!

{ finn }

we have welcomed a gorgeous new nephew into the family on December 16 – a day before isaiah’s birthday – his very own day in december – a tricky feat in our family for the last month of the year!

{ six }

we celebrated our six year anniversary on december 20. we went out for dinner and watched a movie, a special treat to share together while our son slept at his grandparents.

four words for right now {november 2014}

a monthly post sharing some key words that make up the month and what it means to me… i want to look back on each year, and have a whole glossary of words that represent the seasons and journeys i have faced.

{ embrace }

i have reached a -what now?- point which i am realising is a great opportunity to embrace my limits rather than resist them, and turn to His strength which is made in my weakness.

{ slow }
i am back limping from an ongoing injury which started from an accident that happened at university. i’m hoping to have physio or even surgery options to improve the situation.

{ wisdom }
taking on wisdom that is shared with me, remembering that those that have gone before have amazing pearls to share for the future – like watering my garden before 10am 😉
{cuzzies}
our little ones are really getting to know each other now, excited when they see each other and giving hugs freely. they get on so well and love to explore together. bring on the summer!

{ prospects }

i am putting my name in some prospective job hats and applying for positions starting in february next year. feeling like a vagabond coming home… i’m excited and nervous at the possibilities!

{ daylight }
nz is now on daylight savings time that means longer daylight hours in the days and glorious evenings when the weather is good.

{ upcycling }
i am enjoying setting up home and using items from thrift stores to repurpose, i really fight the urge to buy new if it can be made from something else. it’s a good challenge!

{ community }
i have been overwhelmed with the support of others as i create the new gracious.goodness facebook page. this is a new avenue where my posts will be loaded through as i want to keep my personal profile separate. good things are coming up.
