bethany: seven months!

our little girl, you are full of giggles but have a serious side coming out too. i love your drive and the chilled out way you wake up and just chat to yourself or practise your ‘exercises’! you are more than halfway through your first year and you are such a big girl going to daycare three days a week and taking it like a champ. just remember you don’t need to grow up too quickly… IMG_2206 Continue reading “bethany: seven months!”

one year!

Our big one-year-old boy, we celebrate this milestone and the joy you bring us all!

We had a week of celebrations both in Korea and New Zealand to celebrate reaching one year.  Your actual birth day was very special because we planted ‘your’ tree at our land in Ruakaka. Your tree is a puriri, and we chose it because it attracts many native birds but also is an evergreen tree with beautiful flowers in the winter. We pray it grows strong and healthy as we pray that for you.

It was wonderful to share this with our family and friends visiting from South Korea.

Isaiah, at one year, you…

** are so open to meeting new family members and friends
** can navigate yourself up and down stairs; you spot stairs and head straight for them!
** hold your lips pursed when you are focusing or a surprised
** move things away with your hands
** bite objects to test them out
** use facial expressions to share how you feel a lot
** initially were afraid of our dogs (Tarla and Vince) as they licked your toes as we held you but very quickly after that crawled after them and wanted to pat them; but on your terms

Here you are looking through Nan’s cat door at the doggies, you were so fascinated by them!

** are amazing to fly with, such a good boy sleeping and resting on the flights
** need your mummy time, but also like to spend time with your daddy, doing fun things
** can say you own name ‘Iyah’
** can respond to the game, ‘Where is… ? And point to the person
** love, love, love the outdoors – don’t like to be couped up for too long
** enjoy eating marmite on toast and crackers
** are attracted to any sort of animal
** continue to wave ‘bubye’ and ‘hi’ throughout the day, you understand that others respond to this, so you like to interact using it
** can say ‘hello’
** are walking so confidently now but still sometimes need to move around quickly on all fours
** like pushing things along the ground now
** love water and got to go to the beach and ate sand for the first time!

On your first birthday I was constantly looking at my watch and remembering back to that time on your birth day, it felt so far yet so vivid too. What a year it has been Isaiah Kenneth, the best yet! May you continue to grow, explore and learn throughout the next year. We love you so much. We are so proud to be your parents.

Eleven months!

Our Cheeky, can you believe that you are eleven months today? Because I certainly cant! Over the last month you have soared in confidence and definitely want to tell us what you think or feel. You communicate lots through your emotions and facial expressions, signing and some words! We love to see you excited about new things and making connections with things you have experienced before.

Eleven months is 8,035 hours counted up… over 334 days of growing and learning and adventuring; together.

Isaiah, at eleven months you…

** clap when you are excited or proud of yourself
** wave now and it is usually with just your hand and wrist moving
** sign to us, ‘all done’ and ‘milk’
** love, love, love music which is usually followed by some dancing

** are zooming around so fast on your hands and knees
** really love to be on your feet and getting confident to do it one-handed all the time
** can climb the slide at the ELC all by yourself
** use mama and dada to share about lots of things, ‘mum’ means food!
** can say hi and what sounds like your own name!
** hold your own water bottle and feed yourself really well
** love playing with doors or wardrobe doors, opening and closing them brings a lot of laughs
** continue to love the ELC and in the mornings sometimes don’t even notice when we leave!
** have started to walk behind a trolley that we borrowed from your friend Elliana, smiling all the way

** have found your appetite again and love mandarins and bread especially
** poke your tongue out
** test something new by biting or tasting it with your mouth
** are very determined when you want something (even when we take it from you)
** have a ticklish neck like mummy
** love the temperamental music spin top we have and bop to it every time music plays
** respond to the skype sound that begins
** have golden hair that is getting long, maybe your first haircut will come soon?
** went on your first and final bike ride around the reservoir, we will be ready for spring to come again to enjoy it once more ~ you were so brave!

Here, where we live in South Korea, you get a lot of attention, my boy. Your fair hair and your big blue eyes stand out and attract people. You have really learned to cope with it, but sometimes we have to gently remind people not to expect a smile all the time. I hope that you learn through all of this that you were created uniquely by God and that no matter what He loves you for who you are. God looks at your heart, he loves you more than you would know. Our love for you is so strong but we know your designer loves you and has created you with amazing gifts that will be unlocked as you grow and develop.

We are getting so excited to celebrate your first birthday in only a month’s time! What a time of celebration for us, and for you!

You bring so much joy, and I praise God because you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

xx

ten months!

Buddy boy ~ 10 months is here!

Isaiah, looking back this has been another action-packed month of learning and developing. You are ‘finding your feet’ and are now such a confident mover on the ground. You also walk up and down around the furniture and play with letters on the fridge. You love to play peek-a-boo with your dad and laugh when he does funny things like put clean socks on your head. You have your own sense of humor and deep fresh laugh. It makes something burst inside when I hear it!

Isaiah, at ten months you…

** have started to point at things you want us to know about or that you are interested in
** are up bright and early every morning, ready to roll and cuddle with us in bed
** look around expectantly when I say ‘Where’s daddy?’
** are a busy-beaver at home, zooming around on all fours and finding things to get into
** are an outdoor boy – you need to have time outside and don’t like to be couped up inside
** experienced sickness twice this month
** can now get from standing up to sitting down and without hurting yourself!
** have balanced unaided on your feet a couple of times
** respond and engage regularly with books, often choosing to do this by yourself
** have changed to being more of a picky eater recently which may be because of having tonsillitis earlier this month 😦
** love love love the ELC, you know when we are off to school and are happy to be with your friends there
** are not sure about real grass – You don’t like the feel on your hands! A summer in the far north of NZ will change that I think
** are really growing and often get mistaken for being older than you are because of your height

** have a love/hate relationship with your change table now
** know when it is bath time because we sing the ‘It’s bathie time’ song and you get SO excited
** Bath toys are now your new chew toys
** have extended your love of balls to large ones like basket balls, soccer balls and rugby balls
** now sleep on your side most nights
** like to play with your hair while nursing
** love fruit and bread the most
** really like to feed yourself much more than from us
** love to dance and bop to music
** have a new smile, where you scrunch up your face and giggle. It’s hilarious!

Isaiah,  our friend captured you at the ELC, being courageous and going on the slide. All your friends were there to cheer you on! We love that you want to try out new things.

”My wish for you
Is that this life becomes all that you want it to
Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small
You never need to carry more than you can hold
And while you’re out there gettin’ where you’re gettin’ to
I hope you know somebody loves you
And wants the same things too
Yes, this is my wish”

Nine months!

You are nine months today, Isaiah!

If I could tell you this, I think you would whoop with joy and clap your hands ~ you love to do that when you are excited. You are keeping mummy and daddy on their toes these last couple of weeks as you are moving everywhere! And this week you have been pulling yourself up, on anything possible, to be on your feet. Once you are there, you are reaching and finding things to explore all around our apartment. You have such a thirst for new experiences.

Isaiah, at nine months you…

** love books, especially the book ‘My Dad’ that was a present for father’s day to your daddy; you recognize that pictures are a cue for some reaction from you and the reader too!
** peekaboo and laugh especially at the cat card
** are full-on into crawling, moving around the room quickly
** are pulling yourself up on everything! You just love love love to be on your feet
** throw and kick balls
** have started to move along the couch slowly to get to something you want
** are sleeping better through the night again with usually on one early morning wake up time

** have started to get to know our friends at school better, happily going to people you recognize and trust
** always pull the star and tortoise off your ‘little vegas’ toy ~ systemically!
** love to be tickled and surprised
** have started to rough-house with your dad
** have eight teeth now!
** learning to know when you are not supposed to do something 😉 Like the forbidden shelf in the living room

** love splashing so much in water that you even splashed mummy in the eye from a meter away!
** have started to smile when skyping with your nan & grandad and nana
** have a crush on Mrs. Jang at the ELC (who has now gone on maternity leave ~ we will very much miss her!)
** eat like a little trooper, loving yoghurt and nectarines, grapes and have tried so many other things now
** can spend half a day with daddy with no worries
** are a little pincher, mummy has bruises on her arm to prove it!
** imitate our voices and like to experiment with your voice with us both
** are intrigued by moving things
** sometimes while I am talking take my face and move it to you and then giggle
** are sleeping soundly in your own bed
** are William’s number one fan; you think he is the bee’s knees!

Isaiah, you are already an outside-boy ~ you can’t be cooped up inside for too long. You especially love going for big walks with your daddy. You are a magnet for attention here in the ‘Land of the morning calm’ and you are learning to look back and take in your admirers. You let me know when you are unsure of something and we quickly reassure you that we are there. We are so proud of you, for your natural inquisitiveness and joy that you bring. We are now three quarters of the way to your first year celebration in NZ! I can wait but I know you can’t!

‘Little boy, you remind me how so much depends on days made of now.’
